TENCEL™ REFIBRA™ fibres from cotton waste.

The pioneering REFIBRA™ technology involves upcycling a substantial proportion of cotton scraps e.g. from garment production, in addition to wood pulp, where the raw material is transformed to produce new virgin TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers to make fabrics and garments.

Based on the award-winning efficient closed loop production process as standard TENCEL™ Lyocell fiber, REFIBRA™ technology is Lenzing’s first step to contribute to the circular economy in the textile industry.

Garments made of Refibra™ also traceable same as Tencel™ Tencel™ Modal, Tencel™LUXE, and EcoVero™.

Our Refibra™ DENIM MILL:

Our Refibra™ Denim uses virgin cotton that is BCI Cotton which certifies that the farmers offer fair working conditions and treatment through the Better for Cotton Initiative (BCI). This Mill’s virgin cotton is 100% BCI. http://bettercotton.org

This Mill also recycles 100% of its own water in its finishing machines and promotes qualities with low water use in dyeing. They also offer hemp denim. Hemp is the fastest growing of all plants and help farmers avoid the use of herbicides to gain the organic certification and therefore better crop rotation. The Mill also sells post-consumer recycled denim from damaged jeans. They shred the jeans before spinning and dyeing back new yarns.

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers with REFIBRA™ technology are manufactured in an award-winning efficient closed-loop process, contributing to the circular economy in the textile industry.

The use of resources and energy is reduced to a minimum, at the same time we achieve distinguished level of environmental protection and resource preservation.

A seemingly simple idea is at the core of this innovation: The pioneering REFIBRA™ technology involves upcycling a substantial proportion of cotton scraps, e.g. from garment production, in addition to wood pulp sourced from certified sustainable forestry.

This innovative recycling method makes a significant contribution to efficiency and environmental protection. We’re proud to pave the textile industry’s way towards the future-oriented concept of circular economy.

Each Lenzing fiber is made of cellulose, a natural component of our renewable source material wood. A characteristic of cellulose is its biodegradability: At the end of their life cycle, our fibers can re-enter the eco-system, preparing the ground on which new plants grow. This miracle of nature is our inspiration.
