TIPS TO REMEMBER and links below.

• All synthetic fabrics shed plastic microfibres, whether made from virgin or recycled rPET.  Recycled plastic fabric still sheds "50% less than virgin fabric" however we believe that us and the environment deserve 100% of our support, especially when my work through the Circular Centre is helping to remove these textiles from the fashion supply chain and safely repurpose them into high quality products using waterless systems that cannot be put in a washing machine.
   

• The best way to support the environment, animals and human health is to not purchase and wash any of these fabrics and focus more on wearing natural fibres.  Note that most textile Mills do not produce this fabric closed-loop therefore it sheds toxic microfibres in the millions during production that are washing into waterways.
   

• The reality is that there are many garments still made from these fabrics and its frightening that designers are still using them.  See below for some very worrying research. Everyday garments include school uniforms, work gear, active wear and that fabulous vintage dress you love from the 70s (because it will last and shed for 100s of years).  So for these garments we need to wash them inside a Guppyfriend.
   

• The Guppyfriend is not 100% fool-proof in capturing microfibres however another key benefit is that it minimises the garment's agitation in your washing machine so it will shed less plus this helps to prolong the life of your garment, and those two things alone are enormously beneficial.
   

• In my opinion we should never recycle polyester or plastic bottles etc to return to the fashion supply chain unless its a product that does not need washing.  There are many other high quality products where we can safely re-use this plastic (see Circular Centre).  And especially everyday garments that need to be washed regularly or fleece, like a poly fleece bathrobe, as it releases the most microfibres.
   

• Note, the Guppyfriend bag does not prevent textile colours from mixing when in the bag, its just like if you mix them in your washing machine. This also means that the colour of the bag may change due to the dyes in your garments. 
   

• Washing Tips. Wash using cold water, on a short cycle and with eco-liquid soap as these help to also minimise shedding.
   

• Where are they? Due to the reduction of agitation when using a Guppyfriend you may find it hard to locate large amounts of microfiber residue from the inside of the bag but they are there and as tiny as a human hair.
  
  To discard, you can scrape the lining with your finger nail or a paper towel to remove them and put into the garbage, remembering that its still going to landfill and possibly end up in the waterways hence the need for specific microfilters in washing machines and to not purchase new synthetics and only use rPET fabrics if they dont go into the washing machine (such as a raincoat).
