ECOVERO™ fibers are derived from sustainable wood and pulp, coming from certified and controlled sources following the stringent guidelines of the Lenzing Wood and Pulp Policy. 


The advantage of Lenzing™EcoVero™ Vs regular viscose are:

The cellulose fiber is produced on-site at a state of the art facility via a new, innovative environmental process which has significantly lower emissions and water impact than conventional viscose.

 

Nearly all the chemicals used during the production of EcoVero are recovered and reused. Compared to conventional viscose production, the production of EcoVero causes 50 percent less emissions and takes up half as much energy and water in addition to its pulp bleaching being 100 percent chlorine-free.

EcoVero FAQs

  • The world’s latest, most responsible purified viscose fibre made from responsibly sourced and processed wood pulp

  • Soft, luxurious and silky feel compared to silk and fine cotton

  • The fabrics are made from yarn produced by Lenzing based near Attersee Lake in Austria, using sustainable wood from controlled forestry sources

  • The wood pulp is harvested from forests that have the highest certified rating in Europe, ensuring higher standards in production and monitoring than other developing countries

  • Standards are higher than normal viscose production such as seen with monoculture forests bamboo and eucalyptus

  • The forests are either certified FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (program for Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes)

  • 60% of the trees used to produce EcoVero fibres come from Austria and Bavaria to minimise emissions and the fibre’s transport eco-footprint as its processed on-site in Austria.

  • Fibres are then made into yarns on-site using a Closed Loop System developed by Lenzing, the world’s leaders in cellulose fibre production.  This system produces 50% less emissions and takes up half as much energy and water.

  • Almost all the chemicals used are recovered and reused, and the pulp bleaching is 100% chlorine free.

  • EcoVero is still a semi-synthetic fibre that does use chemicals, it is however valuable to know that Lenzing have invested heavily in their production to ensure they are dramatically more environmentally sustainable then regular viscose. 
    MILL MANUFACTURING
    The yarn is then shipped to STSC’s fabric makers in India via Lenzing's partners in India.  We works with a number of Mills who who make Lenzing yarn into textiles specificially for STSC.    Our fabric Mills have processes in place to uphold high sustainable standards including with their water effluent processes, read further about one such Mill.

​NOTE. If you are interested in using the best eco-alternative to viscose/rayon, then ensure your fabrics are accredited.  Please note that even if the fabric says it’s a wood-pulp textile like Tencel or is Lyocell, if it’s not accredited yarn AND then made into fabric via sustainable methods and dyed using GOTS accredited dyes, then its most likely made using non-closed loope methods, wasting water and using toxic chemicals in the production process.

Canopy highlighted Lenzing’s recently announced collaboration with Inditex/Zara to market new products made from pre-consumer recycled cotton as a standout in the movement to conserves.

"This submission is for Viscose fiber produced in Austria by Lenzing group. This is a cradle to gate process, from wood harvest until fiber production. Viscose technology was used to produce fibers.

This fiber process should be combined with appropriate down stream process stages such as spinning, knitting, coloration and finishing to create a viscose fabric scenario. All the methodological aspects are presented in Shen and Patel (2010).

This LCA study was peer-reviewed by thirdparty experts. We applied SAC-MSI methodology to obtain the results. Viscose and Modal produced in Lenzing, Austria are unique due to pulp and fiber integration (vertical integration) in this facility.

This configuration substantially reduced fossil energy consumption due to the use of excess energy recovered from pulping process to cater to the need of fiber production as well.

The co-products recovery is also very efficient in this facility. Due to these aspects, LCA profile of Modal Lenzing Austria is extremely good compared to any other facility in the world. Vertically integrated plants are seldom seen in Viscose/Modal/Lyocell production."
