The Circular Centre’s new bio blends and agricultural waste fabrics will eradicate plastic in textiles plus offer a true circular design system to minimise emissions and plastic pollution and we are ready to deliver locally and internationally right away.
In Australia 800,000 tonnes of textile waste is sent to landfill including 90% of all textiles coming from households which break down in landfill causing emissions and plastic pollution.
The plastic in synthetic fabrics found in fashion and activewear still shed microfibers even when recycled and are known carcinogens & hormone disruptors.
Our circular solution is to mitigate emissions from landfill plus tackle the grave unseen problem of toxic microfibres being shed in the millions during fabric production, and thousands in domestic washing machines ending up in our waterways, oceans, sea life, seafood, humans and the environment.
THE SOLUTION
The Circular Centre’s solution is the final piece to our Circular Textile Waste Service. Working with our Mill partners in India, our fabrics use the world’s first Cradle to Cradle® bio polymer stretch and blend it with natural fibres like Birla™ Modal, EcoVero™ and GOTS organic cotton.
And although considerably faster than the hundreds of years that regular stretch fabrics can take to breakdown, our goal is to be proactive to fast track decomposition and minimise emissions even further.
These premium quality fabric blends are 100% biodegradable, breaking down only once exposed to certain conditions, however if buried in a dry landfill or not composted correctly, the bio polymer can take more than 300 days to breakdown, still causing carbon and methane emissions.
LIFECYCLE OF THE BIO POLYMER STRETCH YARN
To ensure accelerated decomposition our Circular TAKE-BACK Service will fast track matured degradation to mitigate emissions. We are working with a large Australian waste recovery company to trial using their Invessel Composting system using air, water and micro organisms. The fermented material may then be part of their urban, council and land rehabilitation projects.
This can only be achieved because we are using a bio polymer yarn that is both Cradle to Cradle® plus it has a non-ecotoxic certification and will decompose into Co2 and water without releasing harmful substances in the environment.
At the garment’s end-of-life, customers can purchase a biodegradable corn starch pouch with eco-printed instructions on how to clean, cut up and seal in their unwearable garment, and return via our Circular Take-Back Service with our QR tracing code visible through the transparent bag. Safely sealed in, bulk bags are sent to the specialised commercial composting system to close the loop.
MANUFACTURING
Currently around 60% of textiles being used in the global garment industry are synthetic. Our existing manufacturing capabilities in India and China are in place to scale immediately. With Indian government assistance we can create more high quality powerloom production partners and help Indian mills pivot quickly to offer true sustainable textiles as fashion customers worldwide become more interested in buying sustainable ethical fashion.
Commercially we will be able to sell the textiles worldwide, and ship direct from India.
We offer 1000 metre minimums plus eco-dye and eco-print along with 250 other sustainable textiles. We are currently looking for local and international fashion labels to offer exclusivity to and showcase this as a world first circular system.
We have developed whole supply chains for resource efficiency and we are currently seeking working on connecting #blockchain to collect the data from our systems to utilise a QR code tracing for resource recovery.
Once we've figured out the maturation pathway for the Invessel Composting solution we can work with our Partners to replicate this worldwide.
Our fabric quality and price is comparative to other premium brands and we hope designers jump on board to offer lasting quality and expedite the replacement of all virgin and rPET synthetic fabrics.
